Why do salt and pepper diamonds look grey?
The black specks are mostly carbon and mineral inclusions. The white ones are small feathers and clouds. Together they scatter light differently to a clear diamond, so the stone has a soft glow rather than bright sparkle.
Are salt and pepper diamonds durable?
Diamond is still the hardest natural material, but heavy inclusions can weaken a stone where they reach the surface. Choose a protective setting, avoid hard knocks, and have the stone checked when the ring is cleaned.
How are salt and pepper diamonds priced?
Each stone is priced individually. Size, cut, the pattern of the inclusions and the overall look matter more than a grade on paper. Most are sold without a standard clarity grade, so judge the stone by eye.
