What affects the price of a natural diamond?
Carat weight has the biggest effect, and price per carat jumps at popular weights. Cut, colour and clarity each add cost at higher grades, even where the difference is hard to see. Shape matters too: round costs more per carat because more rough is lost in cutting.
Why do natural diamonds cost more than lab-grown?
Natural diamonds are finite and valued for their geological rarity. Lab-grown diamonds can be grown predictably and quickly, so they sit at a lower price size for size.
