Why do marquise diamonds look bigger?
The long, narrow outline spreads the weight along the finger. A 1 carat marquise measures around 10mm long, longer than any other shape at that weight. See 1 carat sizes by shape.
What is a bow-tie in a marquise?
Like ovals and pears, many marquise diamonds show a dark, bow-shaped shadow across the centre. A faint bow-tie adds contrast; a strong one looks like a dark band. It isn’t on the grading report, so judge it by eye.
